Government Ministers Brand Labour’s Defence Strategy as ‘Dangerously Inept’

In a scathing critique, government ministers have accused the Labour Party of failing to adequately protect the country amidst escalating global threats. The Opposition has rejected a proposed 2.5 percent of GDP expenditure on defense by 2030, a policy endorsed by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Instead, they plan to allocate resources to defense only after the general election. Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Downden has lambasted the Labour Party for having “no plans in a dangerous world,” while Defence Secretary Grant Shapps warns of “delay, disruption, and obfuscation” resulting from their stance.

In response, Prime Minister Sunak has called on European nations to bolster their defence investments, cautioning that the US can no longer be relied upon to bear the financial burden of their defence. Despite the Labour Party’s promise to raise defence spending to 2.5 percent when resources permit, they have not committed to achieving this target by 2030.
